A modest, capable pilot and a 50-something father of two from California, “Sully,” or Chesley B. Sullenberger, has chosen to avoid the media since he ensured all passengers and crew made their way off the disabled plane and onto rescue boats and rafts. While the men who saved Flight 1549, Sullenberger and co-pilot Jeffrey Skiles, might have been the expected media stars, it was media-savvy passenger Jeff Kolodjay of Norwalk, Connecticut, who became the face of the survivors.
