Three generations under one roof

Posted by: Marian Salzman In: American life| housing crisis

Not long ago, many people believed the safest bet for their retirement years was to cash in the equity in their homes and move to an apartment or retirement community. But downsizing to a smaller home doesn’t help if you’re selling at a loss. The result: More and more retirement-age moms and dads are moving in with their adult children. At the same time, their children’s children (their grandkids) are putting off college—staying at home to save money. The nuclear family is bursting at the seams. These days it’s not uncommon for three generations to be sharing the dining-room table and the wireless router. (Note to marketers: Retool messages to reach families living under these circumstances.)

  • I am really not impressed at all with young generation the way they treat their grandparents! I am putting my 100 percent to teach my kids to respect their grandparents, I hope they follow as I say.
